Kathmandu Triennale: Ashmina Ranjit and Tayeba Begum Lipi

In March 2017, I attended the first edition of the Kathmandu Triennale, a newly launched international arts platform in Kathmandu, Nepal. Peppered across several venues, the exhibition was curated by Philippe Van Cauteren, artistic director of S.M.A.K. Museum of Contemporary Art, Ghent.

In Kathmandu, I met two courageous and inspiring women: the Kathmandu-based performance artist Ashmina Ranjit and the Dhaka-based artist Tayeba Begum Lipi. Both are radically shaping the art scenes in their cities and engaging communities in often difficult environments.
